Psalm 119:130
"The unfolding of Your words give light; it gives understanding to the simple."

Sunday, before church, my 13 year old asked if he could borrow my iPhone for church.

"NO," I vehemently said.

He began explaining most kids in his youth group use their phones as their Bible.  He wanted to do the same.

(The answer was still, "No.")

Technology is a great thing.  People today can look up Scriptures on their tablets, computers, and phones.  We can open any translation of Scripture we choose to read.   This is very handy and convenient.

But not for Boot Camp and truly getting the most from our Quiet Time.
NOTHING replaces the actual Word of God sitting on your lap.  Along with a piece of paper, pen, or Journal in tow so you can take notes.  (Note taking will be covered in a future post.)

So for boot camp:
  • Find your special chair -
  • Find or purchase an ACTUAL Bible -  (I use an NIV although the NLT translation is becoming a favorite.  It's a very easy to understand translation.)
  • Place your Bible in lap.  (NOT your laptop with a Bible verse pulled up;  NOR your ipad; NOR your iPhone.)

These devices will not count for Boot Camp - only your Bible!

Why am I being so dogmatic about this?  That's the next post:  Technology and our Quiet Time

  1. I am seeing that more and more these days. People having their phones, ipads or whatever out at church. While it is great sometimes having the bible at your fingertips, available while you have a moment to take it in... I agree nothing replaces the actual bible. I love taking it to church or even in my quiet time and make notes, underlining ir highlighting right then.
