Ephesians 6:18
With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
As one group of saints gather on Friday for a Luncheon in a beautiful location - another group in Iraq are running for their lives due to the advancement of ISIS. Christian families in Iraqi cities are now being forced to choose: covert, leave or die.
Many believers are leaving their homes, their business and their way of life. In one article, I read, "They are killing people who refuse to say that Mohammad is greater than Jesus."
Believers leaving Mosul
What resolve. What amazing courage.
I realize persecution is not new... It's happening daily in places like China, North Korea, Iran, Egypt and many other places. But for some reason, this story ever since I read about it a few weeks ago strikes a cord. Maybe it's because I wonder if my family and I would be as bold... I'd like to think so...
On Friday, Knowing God Ministries will be relaunching the luncheon many of us have come to enjoy. If you've been to the luncheons in the past - you will find many similarities. But there will be many differences as well. (Tomorrow's post)
So as we gather, do we truly realize how blessed we are to live in a country where we can come together and freely speak the name of Jesus?
We don't worry about being arrested or being killed because of our faith. We will eat good food and hear great messages that (God willing) will transform and change our lives if we'll allow! (Which is very cool!!!)
Despite the excitement, my heart is heavy as I think about what our brothers and sisters. And worse, I feel inadequate to do anything of real value for them - except pray. And according to the Bible, this is where we can partner with God and make a difference in helping these people.
How do we pray?
- Ask God to remind us to pray and
- Show us how to pray - (the Holy Spirit will show us!)
- Certainly pray in your prayer closet - but make quick, brief prayers your habit as you do life such while folding laundry; doing dishes; driving down the road; working out, etc...
We may not see the answer to our prayers this side of eternity, but the Word tells us our prayers make a difference in someone else's reality. (Want a cool reality about prayer? Check out Revelation 5:8)
